FINDING HIDDEN INTELLIGENCE IN SEC FILINGS
Barbara Fullerton of 10K Wizard and Catherine Whitney of Thompson & Knight LLP put their presentation from the 2007 Society of Competitive Intelligence Professionals conference on the Web for all to enjoy. It's a great and quick-to-read overview of U.S. Securities and Exchange (SEC) filings and their contents for beginning researchers and a good review for the more seasoned.

Rensselaer Research Libraries at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RTI)provide some links to helpful resources, such as Understanding a Company's Income Statement; Reading a Balance Sheet; Reading a Cash Flow Statement; Reading Financials: A Basic Introduction to Reading Financial Statements; How to Read an Annual Report; Beginner's Guide to IPOs and Frequently Asked Questions about Trademarks. A lot of the company research resources are available only to Rensselaer constituents, but they will provide an idea of what to look for at the local library. I particularly like the definitions of various corporate affiliations, like joint ventures and subsidiaries, and have shamelessly used these in documentation for data entry procedures.
