Americans for the Arts, a Washington, D.C. arts advocacy agency, completed one of the largest, and likely the most comprehensive, studies of the economic impact of the nonprofit arts industry. "Arts & Economic Prosperity: The Economic Impact of Nonprofit Arts Organizations and Their Audiences, released on June 10, 2002, reveals that America's nonprofit arts industry generates $134 billion in economic activity every year, including $24.4 billion in federal, state, and local tax revenues. The $134 billion total includes $53.2 billion in spending by arts organizations and $80.8 billion in event-related spending by arts audiences." The Web site includes a summary page of results, along with individual reports available for download in PDF format. Find summaries for 91 partner communities, detailed data tables, study highlights, methodology, to name a few. Check to see if your community took place in the study. Those of us involved in arts advocacy can statistically show the billions of dollars the arts bring to our communities. http://www.artsusa.org/EconomicImpact/ or http://www.americansforthearts.org/EconomicImpact/ Also, visit the home page of the Americans for the Arts to learn about funding sources, arts education, grants programs, NEA testimony and much, much more. Americans for the Arts truly offers "news you can use." http://www.americansforthearts.org/default.asp Here is another new development in the arts community. AMN News is a collaboration of the Whitney Museum of American Art (the host) and Reuters, with news provided by more than 200 membership institutions of the Association of Art Museum Directors (http://www.aamd.org). Browse the site to find links to other art museum resources, including exhibitions, a worldwide events calendar and art from member institutions. Turn to this art museum news aggregator for the latest news, press releases and opinions. http://www.amn.org and http://www.amnnews.com/ Thanks goes out to Joan Peterson, Arts Resource Network Coordinator, for alerting the Internet Prospector of this wonderful new resource. The arts events calendar, Spacefinder, education links, forums and professional development are just a fraction of ARN's features. "The Arts Resource Network links you to existing financial and human resources and builds capacity for the future. It includes easy centralized access to information about a range of public and private opportunities. The network is both physical and virtual. The physical space will include both a downtown hub and a set of satellite sites. The hub will be a home for administration and other activities. The satellite sites will extend our reach into the community. The virtual space is this dynamic Web site connecting you to a range of information and links about the arts and arts opportunities, as well as opportunities to find collaborators and explore artforms." Yes, there is information about funding. Under the Public Art and Community Art tabs find resources on grants and funding. The site is still in development so it is always evolving. It may be worth a weekly visit for all the new developments. http://www.artsresourcenetwork.org/ Pamela J. Smith
