GLOBAL CHICAGO CENTER (GCC)

The Global Chicago Center (GCC) is a central point of contact for information on Chicago's global activities and resources. GCC's Web site is a tremendous resource for prospect researchers around the world and provides a monthly electronic newsletter that only requires registering with the site. Other features include a calendar of Chicago events with global themes, information on Chicago's Consular Corps and hundreds of organizations and individuals, searchable by category, name and language.  Global Chicago is sponsored by the Chicago Council on Global Affairs.

REDEYE

In a February 2008 review, I wrote that Time Out is a publication that is handed out free at Chicago "L" stations. Many thanks to Sonja Daniels, director of research for the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, for pointing out that RedEye, a publication of the Chicago Tribune, is the freebie, not Time Out (http://www.timeout.com/chicago/). The two publications must be in competition because their online "look" is somewhat similar, with RedEye targeted to young, urban professionals who are short on time and long on disposable income. I guess Time Out appeals to older, urban professionals like myself who are short on disposable income and oblivious of time.

WORLD ARCHITECTURE NEWS (WAN)

Officially launched in September 2005, WAN calls itself the global resource for architecture and the leading supplier of news to the global architectural community. WAN gives architects the opportunity to publish their projects online free of charge and describe them in their own words. Projects are updated in real time by architectural practices around the world and are indexed, categorized and referenced by sector and geographic location. Daily news headlines include interviews with guest architects, podcasts and book reviews. Check out Annie Wang's Metro News Chicago for the latest news on the Aqua Tower, a mixed-use skyscraper being designed by architect Jeanne Gang, that will become the tallest building in the U.S. designed by a woman.
