Welcome to 2006 and the year's first issue of Internet Prospector. With the U.S. economy holding its own and the dollar up against almost every major currency in 2005, the New Year looks good closing on those outstanding major and planned gifts. While those who have the most wealth may not be the most generous, there's more discretionary income available for philanthropy today than there was only three years ago when the Dow Jones closed at 8,601.69 on January 3, 2003. The wealthy grew more wealthy in the U.S. in the same time frame as the war against Iraq, a devastating tsunami in Indonesia and Sri Lanka and an ongoing series of catastrophic hurricanes along the U.S. Gulf Coast. It looks like 2006 will be a good year for the wealthy to give some of it back to the poor and needy.
