CONTENTS: Ever find yourself lost on the trail to something you learned about some time ago? This is particularly true when that information bit is one that is infrequently used. Here is a link to a table that outlines Google's international engines. The table includes the engine's language, a link to each interface and search-narrowing by country. While this page is in English, this France-based resource offers things in other languages that will intrigue researchers. Back yourself out and around to the other pages linked through the menu on the left to learn about the invisible Web, French search engines and translation tools among other things. If your French is poor, be sure to bring a translation tool along with you. http://c.asselin.free.fr/french/googleworldwide.htm Here's a fun game you may not have tried. If you are into international research, you'll love it. Use the links that Intelligence Center.com provided to visit Google's in-country engines. Use the chart to choose a country with English as an option, if you desire, or select English from the Google page returned, if that's an option. Then execute a search or two. The results will be a bit different than those returned with the same search in the U.S.-based Google. Even if the differences are just in the order of the results, it may be enough to help you aim for the right results when you search "in-country." Play with the Google News feature too. For a direct route to Google's non-U.S. engines, scroll down Google's Language Tools page to the section entitled Visit Google's Site in Your Local Domain. http://www.google.com/language_tools?hl=en Whoa, now we're talkin'. Search Engine Index offers engines from 200 countries, with a total of more than 900 engines in its stable. Pick a country and then pick an engine. A short description for each engine indicates language and coverage. The list appears to be as comprehensive as a researcher would hope to find. For Belgium, the site lists the link to Google three times -- the English, French and German versions. http://www.search-engine-index.co.uk/ - Cecilia Hogan -
