SEARCHING

You probably have a few sites bookmarked that have links to engines from other countries. You might even have the superior collections of Internets.com (http://www.internets.com/) and Colossus (http://www.searchenginecolossus.com/) in your search engines folder. But as every good researcher knows, the trick about collecting is that someone else always has that one piece that has eluded you. That's why it's worthwhile to have several links to international search engines. Today we will augment your collection of engines beyond the
classic Google.

HOW THEY DO THAT THING THEY DO

We know you've been Googling. But you may not realize that you can't always get here (to the international world of information) from there (from a USA-based engine). Before you enter the realm of search engines across the globe, refresh your knowledge of just how search engines work. Here's a very brief outline:

LOOK.COM

Billing itself as "the search engine of search engines," this resource might be just that. Look.com maintains a collection of search tools for places around the world and for subjects in that same arena. From the link below choose Regional or the subject that interests you (i.e. Business).

Skip the Featured Sites in the results list, as these appear to be paid inclusions. Drill down to the country selected or a subject and you'll be on your way to the information you seek.

SEARCH ENGINE GUIDE

From the home page, first choose Search Engine Directory, then scroll down to choose Countries under the category called Regional. That's how you'll find your way to the international engines. Then, just try to think of a country that isn't listed there. You might not be surprised to learn that this site has one Icelandic engine and 28 UK engines, but you will be surprised to find so many paths to the information you seek in one handy place. To increase your faith in this site, note that it is a Search Engine Watch Select Site.
