MINING LIFE

As you might expect, those who are involved with mining are well versed in the byways and inroads of the Web. The Mining Life home page gives visitors options to review fresh news, check mining stock quotes and sign up for news to be deposited in e-mail boxes. Researchers with mining prospects will be particularly interested in the Companies tab at the top of the page. Drill down through the alpha directory for mining company profiles that include contact information, primary operation, a stock quote if the company is public and information about current and past projects, if that information exists. Recently added companies are listed on the front page of the company directory. Tabs to the left offer you links to news about recent mining closures and openings. Or use the Countries tab to review mining operations from that direction. Nearly every page of the Web site offers visitors a chance to just plain ol’ search so, if that’s your research style, go for it.

VIRTUAL BRAZIL

Remember what we keep saying? Sometimes, to learn about the options for information in the country in which your prospect resides, you have to research the country. This is one place to begin your Brazil research. The site is in English and offers links to Economy, Government, Society & Culture and more. Where does a researcher wind up in Brazil? In the largest companies list, of course (look under Economy from the home page). It’s not much of a list, but any good researcher will notice the clue to a chance at a deeper and more current list when she sees that the source of the list is Exame, “the most important business and economy Brazilian magazine.”

CSRWIRE

If we try to choose which international stories attracted our attention recently, several held underlying issues of corporate responsibility. “The newswire of corporate social responsibility,” CSRWire will be a good place to begin when the company, industry or country you are researching is getting attention for human rights, workplace, environmental, business ethics or other issues. Individual company reports are available for a fee. The site has a news alert service that can be customized. The RSS feed offers visitors another option for information delivery. A CSRWire membership has a fee but, in the meantime, the archive is free.
