U.S.-based researchers like to look at the political donations their prospects have made. Can researchers with prospects in other parts of the world access similar data? Here is a start. Decidedly political, this site offers you a simple list of companies contributions to UK political campaigns from 1994 through 1998. The companies are arranged by name and amount contributed. See the lists from 1994-1995 and 1995-1996 by opting for the hot links at the bottom of the page. http://users.powernet.co.uk/hack/sleaze/index.html
Finding an international prospect s attachment to a nonprofit is deep work. It s likely that, once you find the attachment, you aren’t even sure what the charity does. Use the Charity Commission s database to search for charities by name or by keyword. The detailed profiles returned offer a wealth of information. You’ll get contact information, contact person, area of operation, registration history, financial history in table form and any subsidiary information. You can also search by area of operation and by the objects of support. http://www.charity-commission.gov.uk/ If each country could gather its nonprofit organizations in one virtual place, researchers all over the world would celebrate, wouldn’t we? The Aga Khan Foundation has a small Web site for Pakistan s NGOS -- 52 of them are rounded up in a directory researchers can order (see the NGO Resource Center at http://www.ngorc.org.pk). The NGO Web site for India s nonprofits offers more. Some sections are member-only access, but many are available without registering. For example, you can view detailed profiles of many of the 3,000 NGOs in the site s database. Complete the free registration to access more information. Be sure to check out the Celebrities section where you’ll find profiles and news stories about the glitterati involvement in NGOs. You’ll delight in the organization tree: President and Sector, Sports Celebrities, Film Celebrities, Corporate CEOs, Art/Music Celebrities, Socialites, Intelligentsia and the Power to Give individuals. You’ll have to bookmark this site -- several sections are in early development stages, so it will be fun to check back and watch it grow.
