The National Archives (United Kingdom and Wales) recently unleashed a new search engine. This new tool searches 11 catalogs at once. Researchers may find the Archives' collection of family records, census data, and wills particularly interesting. The National Archives was established in 2003 to join the resources of the Public Records Office and the Historical Records Commission. http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/search/quick_search.aspx An entire culture may be at stake, say some. Is Google the ubiquitous tool of the U.S. nation to dominate the world? Some believe so. France has financed search technology development in order to circumvent Google's rule in Europe. The article cited here is an interesting synopsis of this viewpoint and outlines a "Google slayer" search engine to be unveiled in the fall. You can now search selected television and radio programs. You can also search the content from the BBC news archives. When I searched for "Jagger," the results included an audio clip of the censorship the Rolling Stones faced in April, coverage of Bianca Jagger's involvement in human rights issues, and an audio report of Mick's 2005 claim that police planted drugs on him in the 1960s.
