The students here performed "Cabaret" last week and did a great job. Let's do the Internet Prospector version of "Money Makes the World Go 'Round" this month with visits to venture capital databases.
You'll get one tool you need to explore venture capital firms worldwide here. The BVCA represents "virtually every major source of UK venture capital." The association also provides visitors with a .pdf list of venture capital associations in other parts of the globe, such as Finland, Germany, Hungary, Hong Kong -- well, too many places to list here. In addition to traditional contact information, Web addresses are provided for many (but missing for a few). From the home page, go to the Publications/Research section and scroll down to see the free download for "Venture Capital Associations." There are other interesting publications in this area that will help you fine-tune your venture capital knowledge from a British perspective. Back at the BVCA, profiles from the member directory -- which can be searched by firm name or viewed by VC firms, financial institutions or by professional advisors -- cover contact information, total funds managed (in GBP), types of investments, lists of executives and Web address.
The Australian Venture Capital Association claims to have the majority of active venture capital firms as its members. The AVCAL Web site provides visitors with member profiles which often include contact information, funds managed, type of investments made and chief officers. The database is an alpha sort or can be reviewed via interesting categories like Business Angels, Regional Corporates and VC Yellow Pages.
You'll find another interesting directory of venture capital firms. These entries include what you've seen at the other sites and more in the line of company history and scope. Be sure to click on Downloads off the menu bar. There you'll find a link to a .pdf report (by quarter) on venture capital activity of $2 million or more in Canada. The .pdf versions of CVCA's Enterprise magazine report on career moves and deal closings. It's a tough way to look for a piece of information, but if your prospect is in this mineshaft, it might be worth the effort.
Here's a super source of venture capital links. This megasite's A-to-Z list includes everything from individual firms to country-specific resources. If you've enjoyed reviewing the member directories at the associations we visited this month, just use your "find" feature to locate all the venture capital associations on this long list of resources.
