The first U.S. Census 2000 (http://www.census.gov/) data is out. What's the big news? The U.S. population is more ethnically diverse than anyone might have predicted. What does this mean for you, the prospect researcher? It means that researching the people in your donor pool will require that you fold in international and first-generation resources. Here are a few you may find useful.

CONTENTS:

VIETHOO

VietHoo, sponsored by Vietgate, is a small but growing directory and search engine of Vietnamese Web sites. Choose from among the regulars -- Business & Economy, News & Media, Science & Technology, for example -- to get to where you want to go.

Vietgate plans to be the gateway to everything Vietnamese on the Web. The yellow pages list Vietnamese-owned businesses and the search engine is indexing Vietnamese-content pages, with numbers reaching nearly 100,000 now.

JUSTINDIAN.COM

This Web site is a portal for Indians in the USA. You begin your visit by choosing a locality from the cities and areas listed. If you'd like to switch your locale, don't try to do so using the "Back" button. Instead, use the Change Community link from the top-right menu. Anchors for each location are yellow and white pages and other features. The 10-year old publication that populates the center screen, a publication called Litte India, is read by 1.6 million Indians.

ASIANAMERICAN.NET

"The fastest growing ethnic and nationality groups in the United States" are Asian community groups. AsianAmerican.net is collecting links to the ones in the U.S. and Canada with Web pages. You are bound to find links here to the communities that involve or tout your prospects. This well-organized page lets you jump to organizations by country-of-origin first, or you can scroll through all the offerings. Another important link of interest to researchers will be Asian Study Centers. Don't miss the hotlink to regions, where you'll find links to everything aggregated by those headings.
