UK MONEY SEARCH

Can you think of something about making money in the United Kingdom (UK) and other locales that isn’t linked to this site? The A-to-Z (actually to W) directory lists categories like Quoted Companies Directory (links to 350 traded companies), Business News (various regions), House Prices (links to the government land registry for England and Wales), Magazines, Options News, Stock Exchanges and much, much more.

As usual, there is a bit of mining to do to find the real gems. Drilling down through Quoted Companies Directory leads to Digital Look, a site that offers UK public company reports, including (drum roll here) directors’ stock trades. After you complete the free registration, choose Company Research. Then enter the name of a company. When the results appear, scroll down until you see the link to Recent Director Trades. The results will show you both holdings of the major shareholders and recent trade activity. The direct link to Digital Look is

EUROPAGES

Choose your language and then search through 500,000 companies in 33 European countries to find the company you are researching by company name, location or product. You can also browse Europages’ directory. The brief listing returned from your search includes contact information and a link to each company’s Web site.

CANADIAN RESOURCES (FROM A CANADIAN RESEARCHER)

Allan Friedman, the senior researcher at the York University Foundation in Toronto, has established a Web page for those seeking guidance about researching people, corporations and foundations in Canada. Allan’s interesting format poses a question (for example: “What can you tell me about a public Canadian company?”) and then gives you the answer. You'll get the Web sites to visit to find the answer and a few navigational points, too.

PROFIT

With its coverage of business leaders in the Great North Country, we can think of this resource as Canada’s Fortune Magazine. Review Profit’s take on Canadian entrepreneurs, women who own businesses, hot startups and, the granddaddy of their lists, the Profit 100 -- a list of the “best and brightest growth firms.”

If you have Canadian prospects or a nonprofit that might attract Canadian supporters, check out the Top 100 Women Business Owners from October 2002. Pam Patton directed you to last year's list in the January 2002 issue of Internet Prospector, so check the newest version for changes. There are some stellar women running businesses in Canada and you’ll get to meet them here. Each brief profile gives researchers the three info-bits we love to find: gross sales, number of employees and year founded.

Take a minute to give Profit’s Essential Web Guide the once-over. The Associations links are particularly interesting. Then check out articles like “C.E.O. Superstar,” a report on a study of the emotional skills that distinguish top CEOs. Who knows? It might help your staff choose the next trustee for your nonprofit.
