CONTENTS: The Australian Directory of Philanthropy covers 350 funders, but it is a printed publication that has to be purchased. Begin your Aussie funding adventure here instead. Choose Links from the menu bar at the top of the page and you'll land on a long list of resources beginning with Grantmakers' Web sites. Continue on down that page and you'll find a great collection of links in the sections named Philanthropy and Nonprofit Sector, Nonprofits and Charities, Volunteering, and Ethical Investment. If you have interests or activities in Australia, there are other resources you'll want to explore. The Research & Information section leads to the searchable library catalogue. There is an Ask A Librarian feature but, once your query goes beyond 15 minutes, you'll be incurring charges. Philanthropy Australia has 220 members with assets exceeding $10 billion. Go to About Us to see the link to the list of members (with hot links to their own Web pages). http://www.philanthropy.org.au/index.html You may know about BRW's rich list for Australia: http://www.brw.com.au/lists.aspx If you do, you know that access is denied to all those but purchasers of the list. Here's a little side-step by Crikey. Crikey? Sure, you are thinking about Steve Irwin and his croc adventures. But this Crikey is a subscription-based e-news service. Crikey produces The CRW (Crikey Revised Wealth) Rich List, claiming that the BRW list has been in dispute for years. Crikey gives a brief description of the source of each individual or family's wealth, including some fascinating bits about family, interests, and dramas. The current list is fairly fresh, produced in May 2005. You can bookmark the Crikey site so that you catch the next list they create. http://www.crikey.com.au/articles/2005/05/19-1600-7088.html
Use the Company Research page of the ASE to access public company profiles, review the list of delisted companies, and see the list of companies that have changed their names. Choose a company by selecting its ticker name and a Yahoo! Finance-type page is next, with closing price and links to a price history chart, company details (including chief officers), announcements, and other details. http://www.asx.com.au/research/companies/index.htm
