LAS RESOLUCIONES DEL AŅO NUEVO!

It's a new year and now is the perfect time to add a few international prospects to your research queue. Some of those prospects might be closer than you think. The newest U.S. Census data tells us that the biggest changes in America are coming in the Hispanic and Latino communities. The good news for prospect researchers is that first and second generation Americans or foreign-born nationals are often easier to research than prospects in distant lands. Here are a few places to begin researching your nonprofit's Hispanic and Latino constituents.

LATINOLIBRARY.COM

The library is always a good place to start. This one carries an interesting collection or two. Before you go anywhere, scroll down the homepage to review an interesting "Did You Know" collection of links. The day I visited, there were links to grant programs, leadership and legislation news and more. Next, click on the Latino/a Legislators link on the right-hand menu, which takes you to links to U.S. state, assembly and elected officials.

HISPANIC YEARBOOK

Beginning a new year with reorganizing resolutions is a formula for a fresh start. The Hispanic Yearbook offers you a collection of links to publications, organizations, companies and radio and television stations about and for Hispanic Americans. The searchable databases are intriguing. The results returned will include contact information, Web site address, and other data (circulation if it's a publication, for example). You may search by the name of the company or publication, by state or by category. Be sure to check out the companies. Search for a list of Hispanic-owned or operated companies in your state and see what you are missing.

HISPANIC ONLINE TOP LISTS

Visit the Research and Resources section of Hispanic Online to find this magazine's "top" lists. The 2001 and 2000 Hispanic Corporate 100 and the Hispanic Entrepreneur 100 lists are here, as well as top recruitment and top vendor lists.

100 MOST INFLUENTIAL HISPANICS

We've talked about this list in 1999, but if you haven't been back lately you are in for a treat. You are going to get three times the influential Hispanics you expected from Hispanic Business magazine because there are three years of "top" lists at the site now (1999-2001). The drop-down box gets you a person's name and then a short biography and links to news stories about that individual. Click on the box on the right side of the homepage to get to the window with the Most Influential list.
