Amanda Harizan at Nanyang Technological University has built
an impressive collection of Asian search engines. The
engines are organized by region and include engines for
searching in Singapore, Malaysia, China, Hong Kong, India,
Japan and other areas. While you are here, be sure to
review Amanda's collection of European engines. You will
find them by scrolling down on the frame on the left side of
this Web address, at the bottom of the list of Asian engine
links.
http://web.ntu.edu.sg/library/specialframe.htmTHE ITA PRESS ROOM
Once at the Department of Commerce's International Trade Association Press Room, scroll to the bottom of the page to find searchable areas of the ITA Web site. From the pull-down menu, select Country Commercial Guides (CCG), then press the "Go" button. From the resulting page, you can choose to perform literal or boolean searches of GEMS (Global Export Market Information System) or the CCGs. For example, to find a Russian business directory you may enter "business directory AND Russia. Each result has a header with the number within the total returned and buttons that let you jump to the next or previous record. From this simple search, I found a list of directories and publisher information.Use the search button at the top of the page to search current offerings(note that this is in Java script). From the last pull-down menu on the page, you can search the Press Room archives. If you want to find U.S. companies operating in Latvia or the names of the U.S. diplomats in the Newly Independent States, turn to
http://www.ita.doc.gov/media/Or jump to GEMS to search or link to regional indexes at
http://www.itaiep.doc.gov/For more area-specific links, you may want to go directly to Regions and Countries at

Internet Prospector, August '98
There is much to explore here, leading with the finger-on-the-pulse approach MBN seems to have for both U.S. and international business Web resources. After you tear yourself away from the home page news stories from around the world and the Indices of public companies led by African Americans, South Asians and American Indians, visit the Money & Finance section. There you'll find links to intriguing stories about Business Women of Color, IPOs involving Indian Americans and more. The Organizations section links you to Asian Women in Business, a Web site developing, among other things, a directory of businesswomen of Asian descent. Company profiles are good when you find one at this relatively new site - they include year started and annual gross revenues as well as contact information.

Looking for news on the Internet? Have you, like me, been
pining for long-gone DataTimes? Researchers know that
finding prospect news on the Web is one of the toughest
searches. NewsTrawler is conquering part of the problem by
giving you a chance to search for archived news stories
across the globe. Review the electronic versions of the
print media from NewsTrawler's alpha list and then set up a
custom page by selecting the newspapers and journals you
frequently search. You will be able to use your custom list
as the starting point for your next news search. Results
retrieved will even indicate if the matches returned require
a fee for the entire article. I was delighted to discover
that even my Tacoma, Washington, newspaper is listed.

Internet Prospector, September '96
It seems that this site is not listed in Hansaprint's comprehensive index of telephone directories on the Web. Wajens is a company born out of the Internet with the goal to create a system of databases providing easy access to information. So, select a continent and then find that address and telephone number you've been unable to locate. Try the Telstra "Dialling (sic) the World" feature: enter your country and state and that of the party you plan to call and receive in return the area code access you need and the day and time at the place you plan to call.

Virtual International Business and Economic Sources was created by Jeanie Welch, the 1996 Dun & Bradstreet Online Champion of the Year. (Yes, I can hear all you researchers wondering how we can enter that contest.) A visit to Jeanie's home page proves that she earned the Dun's title. An overwhelmingly comprehensive set of business links and metapages are organized by category, region and country. Her categories are agriculture, banking, business and marketing, business periodicals, country information, foreign exchange rates, foreign stock markets, international trade law, energy, trade issues. Pour a cup of coffee and sit down for a long visit to this page.
