The CWF is a private, not-for-profit educational institution founded in 1926 with the support of philanthropist John D. Rockefeller, Jr. CWF preserves and interprets the Historic Area of Colonial Williamsburg which, from 1699 to 1780, was the political, cultural and educational center of Virginia, the largest, most populous and most influential of the American colonies. CWF operates for-profit subsidiaries, including hotels, restaurants, convention facilities and golf courses, and sells licensed products and reproductions. OWLHF is a national/international organization of living history enthusiasts and participants who celebrate the spirit and legends of the 1800s American frontier. OWLHF is dedicated to providing logistical and interpretive support and liability insurance for living history reenactors, merchants, artisans and special events. OWLHF's goal is to preserve historical heritage, the pioneer spirit, cultures of the indigenous people and legends of the American Frontier. More than 14,000 individuals and families have joined The Old West Living History Foundation since its beginning in 1995. Members come from all 50 U.S. states, Canada, Germany, New Zealand, the Netherlands and England. Chartered in 1961 at the suggestion of the National Park Service and with the support of Mrs. John F. Kennedy, the WHHA is a nonprofit historical and educational organization committed to preserving the White House and recording its unique history. The WHHA has published and distributed more than eight million books, as well as videos and other educational materials. WHHA also sponsors lectures, exhibits and other outreach programs.
