JAMES S. KEMPER FOUNDATION

The Kemper Foundation, an independent foundation in Chicago founded by James Scott Kemper and the Lumbermens Mutual Casualty Company, was incorporated in Illinois in 1942. It focuses its resources on grants to institutions of higher education and to the education programs of major Chicago-area cultural institutions. Within higher education, priority is given to projects dealing with undergraduate or graduate business education. The Kemper Scholars Grant program is offered in partnership with a small number of colleges and universities. Project grants also are provided to education programs of major cultural institutions.  Brief letters of initial inquiry are encouraged prior to submission of formal proposals.

THE ELIE WIESEL FOUNDATION FOR HUMANITY (EWF)

The EWF is a public charity established in 1986 in New York. The foundation advances the causes of human rights throughout the world by creating forums for the discussion of urgent ethical and moral issues confronting humankind and by awarding prizes to winners of a college essay contest. EWF provides funding on the national and international levels. Types of support include funds for conferences/seminars, grants to individuals, program development, scholarship funds and scholarships to individuals. Its giving is primarily in the U.S. and Canada. THE WILBUR FOUNDATION

"Guardian of the permanent things," the Wilbur Foundation was established in California in 1975 and concentrates its funding in the field of humanities, especially history, literature, religion and philosophy -- projects that are calculated to enhance or preserve the "permanent things" of society. Support is given at the national level for conferences and seminars, fellowships, program development, publications, research and seed money. The deadline for submitting grant applications is from September 1 through December 31 with final notification in March of the following year.
