Founded in 1999, this philanthropy arose as a merger of the American Paralysis Association and the Christopher Reeve Foundation. Spinal cord injury research, finding a cure for paralysis resulting from spinal cord injury and helping people with "central nervous system" disabilities are the main interests of this foundation. According to their mission statement: The Christopher Reeve Paralysis Foundation (CRPF), a national non-profit organization, encourages and supports research to develop effective treatments and a cure for paralysis caused by spinal cord injury and other central nervous system disorders. CRPF also allocates a portion of its resources to fund organizations that improve the quality of life for people with disabilities. For more information, visit:

Over its lifetime, the Durfee Foundation has given $13 million to various arts, cultural, historical and educational grantees in Southern California. The foundation has an interesting mix of programs that offer artistic and musical fellowships as well as sabbatical programs for stressed-out nonprofit leaders in LA County. Their community fund helps non-profit start-ups make the volunteer-to-staff transition. The foundation does not accept unsolicited proposals, but will accept a one-page letter outlining your organization, its goals and services.
