CONTENTS: The W. H. Brady Foundation is a private foundation incorporated in Wisconsin in 1956. Currently, the foundation is focused on the institutional foundations of a free society: morality and public life, family and community, and competitive educational structures affecting the preservation and continuing development of Western Civilization, including the vehicles of culture and communication. The Foundation specializes in new venture funding. Grants are typically in the $10,000 to $25,000 range. When the foundation elects to provide support for a new venture, key funding is generally limited to five years. The foundation does not support umbrella groups, individuals or schools engaged in K-12 education. It will not provide grants to colleges and universities or to religious organizations for wholly sectarian purposes. For more information, check the foundation's Web site at http://www.bradyfoundation.org/
The Brainerd Foundation is dedicated to protecting the environment of the Pacific Northwest. Paul Brainerd is the founder of Aldus Corporation, the developer of PageMaker. The sale of Aldus gave him the freedom to dedicate himself to preserving and improving the ecosystems and communities of his native region. The foundation disbursed over $2 million in grants last year. While its focus is on larger grants, it also provides smaller opportunity grants in cases of exceptional need. For more information, including a complete grant list from 1998 to the present, see the foundation's Web site at http://www.brainerd.org/index.htm
