EUROPEAN VENTURE CAPITAL ASSOCIATION

A member-based organization promoting venture investment in European countries, EVCA's Web site includes brief profiles of member companies. Chief officers, contact information, investment levels and areas of interest are listed for each company. EVCA has over 300 members in 30 countries and claims a part of the credit for the formation of EASDAQ, the pan-European capital market for high-growth companies. Search for a member company by name or simply fill in the country name and retrieve sets of companies located there.

I found a fine place to learn everything I need to know about France. For example, did you know that France has had its own Internet-of-a-sort for decades? It's run by the government and the French access it for a fee. Databases include financials for companies and more. That's why -- this is expected to change soon -- France has had less available for free on the Web than other countries.

France Telecom offers telephone directories for individuals and businesses. Scroll to the bottom of the page and choose 'English' if your college French is rusty. Are you unsure of the spelling of the branded company name? Try searching by Brand Names: when you enter the first letter and check the box provided, you'll get back all the companies in the directory that begin with that letter. There is also a Web page finder at this site, but you'll have to polish up on those old French language skills to use it.

THE NATIONAL ARCHIVES OF IRELAND

Ireland's vital records have not been released and spread across the Atlantic like records from other countries. Many records remain housed in county parishes. Use the National Archives site to decide where the records you seek will be found and how you will access them. While records are not online, this site helps steer you in the right direction to find that vital information.
