KELLEY BLUE BOOK
     Internet Prospector, June '99
The 2000 model cars will soon be in the showrooms, reminding
us that this is a good time to learn about vehicle values,
old and new.  Kelley Blue Book has a nicely organized, easy-
to-use site for cars, motorcycles, snowmobiles, watercraft,
     ATVs and more.

Go to the "More Research" paragraph for links to most auto
manufacturers.  At each of these sites you may want to check
on the company's philanthropic interests. In some cases it's
difficult to uncover this information, so use the site map
or index, and search on terms such as, "community,"
"support," "donations" and "foundation."  Also scan the
company's press releases and annual report for indications
     of philanthropy.

Wonder why so many of them are reluctant to toot their own
horns?  Maybe it's more a matter of many corporations doing
themselves "a disservice by failing to communicate their
projects and programs in an effective manner," says Reynold
Levy, former head of the AT&T Foundation.  But the good news
is, "What they may be lacking in elocution, they may make up
for in execution."  (Mike Abshire and Bill Reinhard,
"The Good News is the Bad News is Wrong," p.5, May 1999,
     CORPORATE PHILANTHROPY REPORT)

ALL THINGS AUTOMOTIVE
     Internet Prospector, June '99
Good name for this site.  This directory includes more than
3,000 sites with hundreds of rankings and reviews.  Among
the categories:  Classics, Classifieds, Clubs, Dealers,
Enthusiasts, Sports (Rally, Race Tracks, Indy Cars, NASCAR).
Also find manufacturers of vehicles world-wide, and makers
of engines, parts, tools, wheels and tires.

You may get some help here in valuing a classic or sports
car.  Tour the various discussion and trading groups to see
what the traffic will bear in pricing the vehicle of your
choice.  (In response to the chorus of groans, I'll
     stop now.)

FAST FOOD RESTAURANTS
Internet Prospector,
April '99
Fast food and chain restaurants may fund broad, national
initiatives or your local pet project. (We probably
shouldn't mention the words "pet" and "fast food" in the
same sentence however.)

When you are checking these companies out and the foundation
or corporate-giving area is not apparent, look for words
like community, or partnerships, or search on terms such
as: contributions, foundation, gifts, grants, charitable,
support, or philanthrop* at each site.

If you want to link to a few of the major chains, go to
Money Mentor's Affluence Guide and scroll down to "Fast
Food."  In addition to fast food links, this site includes
lots of other interesting entertainment, dining and travel
links.

For links to many more fast food and beverage chains, see
Mint's Fast Food Page.  It may be slow loading because of  all the logo graphics.

GAS AND OIL COMPANIES
    Internet Prospector, April '99
All those fast food sites lead one to think of...dare I say
it--gas--and oil sites, of course.  (Sorry.)

Here are links to the philanthropy pages of some of the
world's major oil companies.  It's surprising that some of
them don't have Web pages for their giving information and
it takes some real detective work to find them.  Search on
the terms mentioned above: gifts, grants, philanthrop*,
charitable, fund*, foundation, community, support; or more
specific words: arts, environment, social, etc.  Sometimes
such information can be found in the company's annual report.

For general corporate information or executive bios and
compensation, go to the home page, the site index, or
     use the search feature again.
