THE SHUBERT FOUNDATION

The Shubert Foundation awards grants for general operating support to professional, not-for-profit resident theaters in the United States. Grants are awarded based on the organization's record of artistic achievement, audience-building, fiscal responsibility, administrative strength and several other considerations. See the long list of 2005 grant recipients, then apply for your very own grant. Applications must be submitted by December 1, 2006. Fully audited financial statements are required by February 1, 2007.

AMERICAN ASSOCIATION OF PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIES (AAPD)

Check the AAPD site for information on several awards programs. Applications are now available for the 2007 Henry B. Betts Award ($50,000 annual cash award), the Paul G. Hearne/AAPD Leadership Awards ($10,000 each), and two paid summer internship programs for college students with disabilities -- a congressional intern program sponsored by Mitsubishi Electric America Foundation, and the Microsoft Federal IT (information technology) Internship program in federal agencies in Washington, D.C.

NATIVE AMERICANS IN PHILANTHROPY

The Indigenous Environmental Network and the Western Mining Action Network are partners in a pilot project funded by Oxfam American. Their mission is to assist small grassroots indigenous communities that have been negatively impacted by mining. Canadian and U.S. organizations, tribes and groups may apply. Mini-grants are available for up to $2,500. The next application deadlines are February 1, 2007 and June 1, 2007.

PLOUGHSHARES FUND

The Ploughshares Fund supports organizations and individuals working to stop the spread of weapons and build regional security. The Fund makes grants for direct lobbying programs. Requests for emergency funding on a discretionary basis may be considered. There are no geographical limitations.

The board of directors meets three times a year. For your application to be considered at the winter 2007 board meeting, apply by November 15, 2006. For consideration at the summer 2007 board meeting, apply by February 15, 2007.

THE FOUNDATION CENTER'S PHILANTHROPY NEW DIGEST: FUNDING FOR ARTS

During the month of October, the Foundation Center assembled a collection of arts-related resources, news articles and newsmaker interviews in a special issue. There are at least eight pages (even before accessing the articles) so be cautious about printing it.

BRICK AWARDS: UPDATES

We've received updates on the BRICK Awards mentioned in the October 2006 issue. The BRICK Awards recognize and support social change-makers under the age of 25 (as of April 12, 2007). Since 1996, the BRICK Awards have honored young people making our world a better place.

The 2007 BRICK Awards accepts applications from citizens and permanent residents of Canada and the U.S. All BRICK Award winners "have a shot at $25,000 in grants and scholarships, international recognition and televised glory." Applications are due December 1, 2006.
