The mission of BTF is to promote and enhance the growth of youth participation in baseball and softball throughout the world by funding programs and fields, coaches' training and the purchase of uniforms and equipment. Grants are designed to be flexible enough for applicants to address needs unique to their communities. BTF awards about 30 grants per year totaling more than $1.5 million. The average grant is $51,000. BTF is now funded annually by Major League Baseball and the Players Association. http://mlb.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/mlb/official_info/community/btf.jsp The RadioShack StreetSentz Community Grant program is dedicated to helping families protect their children from abduction, violence and abuse. The program currently focuses on two areas: prevention of family violence and abuse, and child abduction. Programs and services must directly impact or benefit a RadioShack community. Grant requests should be limited to $500 or less. http://www.radioshackcorporation.com/cc/contributions.html The Donald W. Reynolds Foundation awards a limited number of grants each year to community-based nonprofit organizations in Arkansas, Nevada and Oklahoma. Capital grants are awarded only for projects that offer "extraordinary potential for a transformational impact on the applicant organization and the community it serves." A separate Planning Grant application is required of those who are invited to apply. Be sure to study the extensive application guidelines. The entire process involves a commitment that may span three years. Directions for applying for Microsoft's multiple giving programs can be found on this simple, straightforward page. The guidelines get right to the point: Eligibility Requirements for Microsoft Funding, How to Request Funding from Microsoft and How to Request a Software Donation. Software donation requests in the U.S. are handled by Microsoft's partner, TechSoup.org. Nonprofit organizations outside the U.S. should contact their nearest Microsoft Worldwide office. http://www.microsoft.com/about/corporatecitizenship/citizenship/giving/apply/
The Trust supports conservation activities around the world that fit within the mission of the National Geographic Society. It funds projects that contribute significantly to the conservation and sustainable use of the Earth's biological, cultural and historical resources. Most grants range from $15,000 to $20,000. National Geographic Society funds are intended to function as complementary support and applicants are strongly encouraged to seek additional, concurrent funding from other funding agencies. Applications are accepted throughout the year, but allow eight months for the board to formally review and consider your application. http://www.nationalgeographic.com/research/grant/rg2.html
At the Smithsonian, the Office of Research Training and Services (ORTS) is responsible for the Institution's programs of research grants, internships, fellowships and other scholarly appointments. Updated information and applications for 2007 will be available by early October 2006. Let's hope they'll take the opportunity to spruce up the ORTS Web page, too.
