AMERICAN LEGACY FOUNDATION: FIGHTING TOBACCO USE

Tobacco is our nation's leading cause of preventable death, and yet, according to the American Legacy Foundation, the tobacco industry spends more than $24 million every day to advertise, market and promote its deadly and addictive products. Every day tobacco kills 1,200 Americans, and, sadly, 2,000 children begin to smoke every day. The foundation's Web site illustrates the problem with "tobacco maps" that show the prevalence, attitudes, restrictions and cessation rates of smoking.

The American Legacy Foundation supports projects that advance creative, promising solutions to remedy the harm caused by tobacco use in America. The deadline for letters of intent for its Small Innovative Grants program is fast approaching.

Deadline for letters of intent: May 23, 2008
