CORPORATIONS/FOUNDATIONS

The list of the 100 Best Corporate Citizens list has just been announced in the spring 2006 issue of Business Ethics Online: the Magazine of Corporate Responsibility. While you're at the site, learn about their new radio program and check the What's New page. http://www.business-ethics.com/ Specialty Publishing is the Internet home of five construction/technology-oriented businesses groups. The nice thing about this is you can access all of their "top" lists from one page. The most useful list is probably the Start-It 1,000 List, which features manufacturing companies in the Large ($1 billion+), Mid-size ($200 million - $1 billion) and Small ($10 million - $200 million) categories. It can be sorted by industry type. The caveat is that companies seem to be able to place themselves on some of the lists, rather than being ranked impartially, making this site more of an advertising vehicle. With this in mind, you might just browse these lists see if there are some new corporate possibilities in your area. Clicking on a corporate name will take you to its home page. Most of the lists cannot be sorted, so use the "Find" feature on your tool bar to locate companies in your city or state. http://www.specialtypub.com/lists.asp Planet Dog's grant program funds new and proven initiatives that bring people and pets together for mutual benefit and support. Service-oriented canine activities may include
Grants do not exceed $5,000. Most of the funding goes to grass roots, small non-profits with budgets under $300,000, but there are grants, too, for large-scale organizations that pave the way in canine service programs. Proposals for the fall cycle must be received by August 1, 2006. Awards will be announced September 15. Watch the site for the spring 2007 deadline. http://www.planetdogfoundation.org/Grantmaking.asp The Lois R. Cappelli Foundation supports programs that help at-risk youth to reach their full potential. It focuses attention on three areas: education, health and fitness, and arts education. The foundation has awarded over $4.6 million in grants since its inception in 1999. Grants are generally $5,000, but greater support (up to $25,000) may be considered for organizations with "unusually significant and effective" programs. The next deadline is June 30, 2006. http://www.cappelli-inc.com/lrc.shtml
The Sociological Initiatives Foundation supports research and social action projects that focus on finding solutions to a broad array of social problems. Areas of particular interest include:
The concept application deadline is August 15, 2006, and the proposal deadline, November 15, 2006.
