YOUTH VENTURE: TU VOZ MY VENTURE

"Dream it. Do it. Youth Venture is the power to change your world!" . . . the message of Youth Venture/Tu Voz My Venture.

Youth Venture, in partnership with the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and MTV Tr3s Voces, will select teams of two or more youths, ages 13 to20, every week through June 29th, who submit great ideas for encouraging their peers to graduate from high school and college.

Tu Voz My Venture winners will receive grants of up to $1,000 to create their ventures -- an organization, business or club to help young Latinos stay in school and prepare for college and careers. Five of the teams will be awarded $5,000 scholarships to be evenly split among team members.

The Web site is in English and Spanish. In both languages, it urges young people to "Take charge, don't wait for adults! Get your team together and help bring about positive changes in your school and neighborhood, community and your life!"

SURDNA FOUNDATION: CREATIVE WRITING RESIDENCIES FOR TEENS

The Surdna Foundation Arts Program is a national initiative focusing on arts and education. The foundation, which funds grants in five program areas, is launching a new initiative in support of young creative writers. The program is being developed to provide a high-quality program that will be accessible to a diverse teen population.

The Surdna Foundation is seeking proposals from artists' communities that serve creative writers to develop a summer creative writing retreat program for teens. Participants will reside in the communities and will be mentored by professional writers of national and international stature.

Only organizations with a 501(c)3 status and in operation as an artists' colony serving creative writers for at least five years may apply. Download the Creative Writing RFP from the Web site (at the bottom of the following page).
