What's the biggest change facing business in the next ten years? Fast Company asked ten of their favorite brains. Some of their answers are unexpected and should get you thinking. http://www.fastcompany.com/magazine/103/fast-talk.html While you're at the site, see the latest Fast Fifty list, "50 portraits from the future" -- people in business, technology, the arts and beyond. Fast Company notes that this is a list, not a ranking. "In this gallery of the imagination, No. 1 gets no more laurels than No. 50." You'll also want to see their prediction for (gulp) Six Jobs That Won't Exist in 2016. Scroll down to the end of the article for other predictions and wish lists. http://www.fastcompany.com/fast50_06/index.html The Intuit Foundation was created to foster economic empowerment both nationally and in communities where Intuit has a significant number of employees. The foundation's purpose is to promote, enhance and finance charitable and educational activities. Its premier program, the Intuit Tax Freedom Project, is a strategic initiative launched primarily in response to public concerns about the digital divide and the need for electronic tax services to help disadvantaged and underserved taxpayers. Through the Intuit Tax Freedom Project, Intuit donates use of TurboTax Online to individuals and families who meet eligibility criteria announced annually at the beginning of tax season. More than 11 million returns have been donated since this program began in 1998. http://intuit.com/about_intuit/philanthropy/how_we_support.jhtml The Art Deadlines List is a monthly newsletter (e-mail or paper) with several hundred announcements every month of art competitions, art grants and scholarships, juried exhibitions, art jobs and internships. In addition, there are calls for proposals, writing and photo contests, design and architecture competitions, residencies, auditions, casting calls, festivals and other opportunities for artists, art educators and art students of all ages. You may subscribe to the paid premium edition or sign up for the free monthly e-mail version. The RGK Foundation awards grants in the broad areas of education, community and medicine/health. The education programs focus on grades K-12, with particular interest in math, science and reading. Proposals are also considered for teacher development, literacy and higher education. RGK Foundation no longer accepts unsolicited grant proposals. All applicants must complete an electronic letter of inquiry from the Web site as the first step. RGK will consider one letter of inquiry per organization in a twelve month period. http://rgkfoundation.org/guidelines.php The J.C. Downing Foundation provides some very basic guidance to help grantseekers increase their chances for a successful application with any foundation. Brief paragraphs (hints, really) begin with Establish Your Objectives, and end with Keep Your Chin Up -- if your proposal fails to win immediate support. http://www.jcdowning.org/resources/generalguide.htm
Now that your appetite for proposal writing is whetted, you may want to proceed to the main course. Go to the Foundation Center 's Get Started page for a menu of learning opportunities for grant writing: tutorials, short courses and classroom training -- some free and others for a fee. We review this site periodically, and mention it again for new grant writers. http://www.fdncenter.org/getstarted/learnabout/proposalwriting.html The Proposal Writing Short Course is a good place to start. Topics are accessed through links in the left margin. http://www.fdncenter.org/getstarted/tutorials/shortcourse/index.html And now for dessert: Ben & Jerry's Foundation supports and encourages organizations working to eliminate the underlying causes of environmental and social problems. The company, Ben & Jerry's Homemade, Inc., makes yearly donations of over $1.1 million dollars. The foundation receives a portion of these funds. Full grants range from $1,001-$15,000. Small proposals ($1,000 and under) are reviewed three times a year. Awards are considered for proposals meeting their guidelines and "infused with a spirit of hopefulness." http://www.benjerry.com/foundation/index.html
