The purpose of the program is to encourage young people to read and understand great literature while exploring themes in American history. 2000 books will be awarded. The National School and Business Partnerships Award recognizes exemplary partnerships between schools and businesses around the country. Partnerships involving kindergarten through 12th grade public schools and/or school districts and businesses are eligible to apply for the award. The Council presents six awards per year. Those selected receive national recognition and the schools or districts receive $10,000 to support partnership efforts. The goal of this program is to encourage communities in the U.S . to improve the eating and physical activity of young people, ages 2 through 20. Grants will be awarded to 501(c)(3) and 509(a) organizations and agencies working with communities that demonstrate the greatest need and likelihood of sustainable impact on young people's nutrition and activity levels through the programs. Number of awards, 50. Maximum award, $10,000. The deadline for applications is February 1, 2006. http://www.generalmills.com/corporate/commitment/champions.aspx The Foundation's focus is on providing opportunities to underserved youth, ages 5 through 17, in urban American cities. Programs that enhance the learning process are funded, including year-round mentoring and tutoring. They make a special point to note that "public schools are not 501(c)(3)s and therefore are not eligible for funding." There are four grant cycles per year: applications are due the first of February, May, August and November 2006. If one cycle has closed, your application will be considered during the next cycle. Junior Golf grants are not awarded through this program. It funds major initiatives in adult literacy and the distribution of prepared and perishable food. Requests for supporting capital campaigns, endowments or operating expenses are seldom approved.
