Making toys available to homeless children across America: the new, focused direction of the Toy Industry Foundation (TIF). If your organization shares a similar goal in serving children who are homeless, and is seeking support for programs to bring "joy, happiness and comfort" to children through play, you are invited to submit an application to receive funds from the TIF. Average grants range up to $25,000 per program element. http://www.toy-tia.org/Content/NavigationMenu/ If you have trouble with the link above, go to http://www.toy-tia.org/ and click on the box titled Toy Industry Foundation, then look on the yellow navigation bar for the words "Grant Guide."
Here's a little "slide show" to take you through the basic differences between public and private companies. Be forewarned -- the ads and graphics almost overpower the text. To receive Forbes' e-mail newsletters with links to articles, you'll need to become a member (free). While you're at the site, look for the latest list of America's largest private companies. http://www.forbes.com/2004/11/08/cx_sr_1108mondaymatchup.html
Here's Inc.'s 2004 list of the 500 fastest growing privately-held companies in the U.S. Find the link that says, "Read the Full 2004 Inc. 500," (left side, below the "Top 25" list). From this link, clicking on the company's name will reveal its 2003 revenues, percentage of growth, number of employees and a link to the company's Web site. The "Top 25" and the "Top 10 by Revenue" lists provide a mini-profile of each company, but no link to the company's Web site. Access to profiles for all 500 companies can be purchased. http://www.inc.com/resources/inc500/index.html Wal-Mart sponsors several scholarship programs. You probably know a student who qualifies. Note: the deadline for all the programs is February 1; no late applications accepted. While you're on the site, explore their many other charitable programs. Wal-Mart is consistently among the top philanthropic companies in the world and should be closely watched for possible links to your organization's constituency. http://www.walmartfoundation.org/
