THE VIRTUAL CHASE: COMPANY RESEARCH ON THE WEB

Sponsored by Ballard Spahr Andrews & Ingersoll, LLP, and created by Genie Tyburski, this site is more than it appears on the first page. The research guide (in the right margin) starts with eight steps to finding information about companies. It quickly expands into lots of resources primarily for legal researchers, but good for our purposes, too. A bunch of these were new to me -- a real treat for a prospector accustomed to relying on the same old familiar resources. Each link is annotated, including the date the site was first reviewed in TVC.

CHARITABLE GIFT FUNDS

Smaller charities without staff to handle donations of securities will be interested in this. Read a free summary of an article on charitable gift funds (or pay $1.50 for the full article), "Gift Funds Can Blossom for Charities: Donate Cash or Securities Before Dec. 31 to take Tax Deduction." It's by Sandra Block, in USA Today, November 10, 2000. Find it in the Money section, page 3B, in the newspaper version. You may be able to get the article free through your public or college library. Find the article summary or full-text version by pasting the first six words of the title in the searcher at
