BUSINESSWEEK ONLINE

In her article, "For Many Charities, an Empty Cup," Theresa Forsman takes a hard look at the current issues facing nonprofit organizations. Consider her ideas for surviving the ravages of September 11, the slumping economy and cuts in local, state and federal funding.

Use the Search box to find the article, which first appeared November 25, 2001. It was in the Small Business section as I was writing this, but may have been archived since then.

Try Quick Research (powered by Vault.com) for corporate snapshots, articles and links to companies.

ERSYS.COM

ERsys has maps, charts, reports and links to over 1,300 U.S. cities. Find demographics, economic indicators, housing stats, media, local contacts (like the chamber of commerce), businesses and more.

Search by state, then choose your city. You'll find just about everything you need to know about the place. One of my favorite links (in the left margin under Quality of Life) is Shopping Malls. The stores and restaurants are grouped by type, with links to each company's Web site.

CBS MARKETWATCH

This is one of the easy-to-use sites for creating a portfolio and tracking stocks (which you might want to do for your top corporate executive/director prospects). Look for the link to My Portfolios.

Several researchers in your office can track different stocks at this Web site and you can further multiply your effort by having them all use several such services.

For more good stuff, click on Research & Tools and scroll down to Stocks in a Box. A new feature here is free SEC filings. You'll also find historical quotes, insider trading, profiles, searchable news and more. You must register (free) to access many of the site's special features.
