CONTENTS:
A study by the Center on Philanthropy at Indiana University examined the effects of major events of terrorism on the U.S. economy and philanthropic giving. It found that the stock market dropped immediately following most of the major crises, but recovered within a year, and that the total amount of charitable giving has increased every year for the past 40 years, with the exception of 1987. However, unique factors of the September 11 attacks and an economy on the edge of recession before the attacks add to the unpredictability of the effects. http://www.aafrc.org/press5.html

Other Causes Hurting New York Post Article Rubin Hannele, in "Other Causes Hurting" (New York Post, 9/24/01), says that holiday fundraising in November and December may suffer due to the huge outpouring of gifts for relief and recovery efforts in September.
