WASHINGTONPOST.COM – BUSINESS RESEARCH

The Washington Post has some useful areas for researching companies and CEOs, but they're not as easy to reach as they might be. They require you to start a search with the company's ticker symbol, which means you'll need to go through several steps to get to the company's profile, SEC filings, competitors and other items.

Under Company Research, you'll be able to access Hoover's company capsules (in a nice, compact format) on more than 12,000 public corporations. As might be expected, the lists of "Top Companies" lists feature those in the D.C. area.

While you're on the Company Research page, look in the left margin for links to executive compensation figures. The excellent Business Glossary can be found by clicking on Special Reports. The huge glossary, compiled from several sources, contains more than 1,250 business terms, cross- referenced.
