THE MCGRAW-HILL COMPANIES, INC.
Do you know what Business Week, BYTE magazine and Standard & Poor's have in common?  They are all owned by McGraw-Hill, whose companies are also information providers to such diverse sectors as aviation, medical, communications and construction.  In addition, McGraw-Hill is reportedly the world's largest publisher of educational materials.

Of interest to us, McGraw-Hill has a foundation which supports "innovative programs that increase the abilities of people around  the world to learn, to grow intellectually, to master new skills and to maximize their individual talents for school, work and community."  They fund scholarships, arts & culture, literacy programs and education.

STANDARD & POOR'S EQUITY INVESTOR SERVICES
While you're in the McGraw-Hill neighborhood, you may want to check out S & P's site.  For lists of the S & P companies, go to Standard & Poor's Equity Indices and Company-sponsored Information. Unfortunately, the companies in S & P's lists are not linked to the company sites.  You'll find those links in the company-sponsored  lists, however. Registration is required if you want to access S & P's Stock Reports.

CONSUMER PRIVACY ON THE WEB
On March 4, McGraw-Hill and other information-oriented businesses are sponsoring a multi-industry forum in New York, "Customer Privacy on the Web: Self-Regulation or Government Enforcement?" Apparently, in  March, the FTC will begin surveying Web sites to see who has privacy policies and whether a new law is needed to protect personal privacy. We'll check back next month to see what ensued at the forum.
