LOEWS CINEPLEX ENTERTAINMENT
A theater near you ... may present an untapped
philanthropic opportunity. A movie theater is almost
certainly in every town of any size in the country. Most
of these theaters belong to one of the few major chains.
One of these is Loews Cineplex Entertainment, which is a
partner in Magic Johnson Theatres and several companies
outside the United States. Loews Cineplex also operates
under the names of Sony, Cineplex Odeon, Star Theatres
and Imax Theatres. Go to the Corporate link to read the
corporate profile and financial reports of Loews, ranked
No. 1 by their standards, and Np. 2 by Hoovers.
It would have been nice to see evidence of Loews'
corporate philanthropy on their WWW site. Maybe you can
mention this when you approach them for funding!

REGAL CINEMAS
With its merger with ACT III Theatres, Regal Cinemas of
Knoxville, Tennessee, claims to be the largest theater
circuit in the world. It is owned by the investment firms
of Kohlberg Kravis Roberts (KKR) and Hicks, Muse, Tate &
Furst. Regal Cinemas also operates FunScape centers, which
house movie theaters, miniature golf courses and virtual
reality games.
Hoover's refers to Regal as a "movie theater megacompany,"
with about 3,200 screens in about 400 theaters in 29 states.
You might want to go to Hoover's
WWW site to compare the
profiles or corporate "capsules" on all these movie-chain
companies:

AMC THEATRES
AMC Entertainment is the No. 4 motion picture exhibitor in
the U.S., operating in about 240 theaters, with about 2,700
screens in 23 states, D.C., and several countries. About
30% of its revenues come from concessions (so be sure to
consider concessions companies as prospects, too).
AMC helps raise awareness and/or money for local and
regional non-profit organizations through grand openings,
in-theater fundraisers and a national children's reading
program.
Stanley Durwood and his family control three-fourths of the
company stock.
