C O R P O R A T I O N S
STANFORD
UNIVERSITY'S J. HUGH JACKSON LIBRARY
From time to time we feature academic business collections
that are particularly attractive, accessible and easy to
use, so if you have some favorites, please tell us about
them. On review this month are:
* The Stanford University J. Hugh Jackson Library
* University of Pennsylvania Wharton School Lippincott Library
* Cornell University Johnson Graduate School of Management Library
A good starting place is Stanford University's J. Hugh
Jackson Library site. We're going straight to the "Top 25
Sites" page. From there, the "Main List" and the "List of
Lists" are easily reached. The nice thing about this site
is that you don't feel overwhelmed by too many choices.
These are selected sites, some of the best for business
research. I think you'll like it.

PENNSYLVANIA'S
LIPPINCOTT LIBRARY OF THE WHARTON SCHOOL
A nice feature of this site is the Business Database Wizard,
which whisks you to the business information you need. The
Wizard will take you to a short index of categories such as:
Annual Reports, Company Profiles, Journal and Newspaper
Articles, SEC Filings, etc.
Choosing "Company Profiles" leads to a very short list of
links to familiar sites for corporate information (free &
fee), such as Hoover's, Dow Jones Interactive and D&B
Million Dollar Database. I like the Wizard feature and
hope the library will expand its list of links in some of
the categories. However, its simplicity is a plus for
locating basic corporate information.

CORNELL'S
JOHNSON GRADUATE SCHOOL OF MANAGEMENT LIBRARY
The BII (Business Internet Index) looks pretty ordinary with
its straight alpha listing of topics, but it is much better
under the surface. Choosing "Company Profiles/Directories"
reveals a list of nicely annotated links describing the
contents of each site.
Until I read through the site descriptions, I hadn't
considered job and career sites, such as JobWeb and Vault
Reports, as a source for corporate profiles. Company
profiles are provided for job-seekers and are useful for
researchers, as well. Included is information on corporate
culture and salaries, with links to corporate home pages.
P.S. Just for fun take a look at Vault.com's Top 10 Ways to
Avoid Being Caught Surfing the Net at Work:

COMMERCEINC.COM
Search CommerceInc's 11 million company records by business
name, by industry or by state. Records can also be sorted
by company type (private or public) and by location type
(headquarters, branch or single location). A MapQuest map
pops up to pinpoint each location. Click on the D&B D-U-N-S
number for the top executive's name and title. Lots of
newspaper and company reports are available via the
Electric Library-Business Edition and Powerize.com.
All this in a nice, simple format.
