LUCKEDCOMPANY.COM

With the downturn in the dot.com economy, many companies are not doing well. Layoffs, bankruptcies and flat-out disappearances make it a challenge to find out if your prospect is on the up-and-up or on the long slide downhill.

But you will want to leave your sensitivities at the door before you look into this site. It's a rollicking collection of conversations - more of a chat room than, say, a Forbes or Fortune kind of place - about companies' good or bad news, and the news you find here may or not be rumor. They feature inside information, such as company memos sent in by employees. But any site featuring a Happy Fun Slander Corner has to be read with great care.

Not to mention a five-alarm Parental Warning: there is pornography, obscenity, irreverence and other bad behavior at this site. In fact, the name of the site isn't really luckedcompany.com. That's just the page for companies that are doing well. We couldn't print the real name of the site in a family newsletter.

For the name of the site and the URL for the home page, change the "l" in "lucked" to an "f". You get the picture.

Now that you've had your warning, it's said that the site is used by business journalists, human resources executives, headhunters and Internet analysts, so if you can get past the sludge, you may find a gem or two.

Archives are available and searchable.

NONPROFIT SECTOR RESEARCH FUND

The NSRF, of The Aspen Institute, produces good publications featuring research studies supported by the Fund. The Nov/Dec 2001 issue (#20) is no exception. The Research Snapshot for this issue features the study, "Nonprofit-Corporate Alliances - Risks, Opportunities and Guidelines." The article is available in Acrobat pdf.

To find the article, go to the Publications List on the home page, and from there, Research Snapshots. Check the other links, too, for working papers, books and nonprofit research news from this authoritative institute.

BUSINESS ETHICS - 100 BEST CORPORATE CITIZENS

This report on corporate social responsibility was issued in the April 2001 publication, Business Ethics, but it's worth reading again for the reasons WHY the companies scored high or low. These insights provide a better understanding of the companies you may be approaching for funding. Be sure to read the attached article, "How Do You Measure Corporate Citizenship?"
