We've been hearing a lot about China and its economy lately. The country is benefiting from globalization and its gross domestic product is growing at nearly double digit percentages. But we prospect researchers need names! Luckily, Forbes magazine has devoted one of its highly- esteemed lists to China's wealthiest people, each of whom has a net worth of at least $321 million. Forbes listed only three billionaires on its 2004 list, but this year they found 10. People with interests in real estate and the Internet prospered especially this year, including Chen Lihua, the richest woman on the list. She owns buildings in some of Beijing's most lucrative locations. Other interesting profiles: Robin Li, cofounder of newly public search engine Baidu; Jack Ma of Alibaba.com, the Web site that attracted a $1 billion investment from Yahoo!; and Li Zhaohui, at 24 the youngest person in the group, who became the leader of one of China's largest private steelmakers after his father was murdered. You can sort the list by Name, Rank, Net Worth and Company, or read detailed Features and Industry Spotlights. http://www.forbes.com/2005/11/01/china-richest- list_05china_land.html
The name says it all -- Fortune magazine examines powerful women on this Web site. eBay's Meg Whitman is first on the list and there are a dozen newcomers to research. The list can be sorted by Age or you can choose to view International, Women to Watch, Highest Paid, Perennials and Exits (including fired, retired and those whose companies are struggling). Click on a name for a brief blurb. Other articles examine issues such as why there aren't more women as leaders of hedge funds, why some women decide to 'chuck it' and, if you haven't heard enough on the subject, the restoration of Martha Stewart. http://www.fortune.com/fortune/powerwomen/fulllist/0,25342,,00.html
About.com has something for everyone, and its entrepreneurs page is no exception. Though the historical bios may not be of interest -- Ben Franklin? Henry Ford? -- the page is full of information (and links to more Web pages) about entrepreneurship and entrepreneurs and includes bios of living legends such as Wayne Huizenga and Ingvar Kamprad. Ignore the Business Offers links on the left side of the page -- they're ads. But if you're interested in learning more about entrepreneurship, click on the link to Entrepreneur's Glossary under Essentials for a handy explanation of terms such as 'Angel Investor' and 'Business Incubator' or check out the Articles and Resources. http://entrepreneurs.about.com/od/famousentrepreneurs/
