FACT MONSTER

Fact Monster, from Information Please, is a colorful, fun site with a red Monster mascot. Ok, so it's geared toward kids, but isn't there a little kid in every serious researcher? When you go to the People page you can take the J.K. Rowling quiz, then take advantage of the good information available on contemporary and historical figures. The Search function accesses 30,000 biographies from Information Please's almanacs, dictionary and encyclopedia. Biographies of Bill Gates from the almanac, dictionary and encyclopedia are available, as is Ted Turner's encyclopedia listing. Unfortunately, Warren Buffet's biography is nowhere to be seen.

Or, if you feel like browsing, click on Biographies for links to the biographies grouped into subject categories: Entertainment, Sports, World Rulers, Business, African-Americans, Women, Asian Pacific Americans, Hispanic Americans, American Indians, Artists, Architects, Explorers and Scientists.

ELIYON

Don't be put off by the cheesy promotional look of this Web site. Scroll down to the Business People Search, which is in Beta version. When I visited the site, the Company Alumni search was not working, but click on the Name Search tab, fill in at least the last name of the person you are searching for, click on the Find button, and you will see a list of results. Some of the profiles are basic, offering only name and job title.

More comprehensive profiles may also include board memberships, past employment history, news and Web site clippings, photos, links to other Web sites and more.

Eliyon claims that

... if a businessperson has been quoted in an article, appeared in print on a web site or press release, chances are we've found them and automatically created their professional profile. Eliyon is the largest source of information on the U.S. corporate work force with over 20 million professional profiles, which are growing at a rate of 25,000 per day, and 1.4 million company profiles.

Businesspeople can also create or add to their own profiles.

Thanks to Randy Bunney for this find.
