This 2006 rich list was released in the Winter 2006/2007 issue of Canadian Business magazine. It’s a great time to review the list and construct a plan to revisit this site when the new list is released this winter. Individual or family wealth is estimated for each ranking slot. The brief descriptions cover their pathways to wealth as well as other information bits such as recent deaths or ascensions to leadership roles. Arabian Business magazine produced a list of the richest Arabs in late 2006. The descriptions attached to each individual or family name include estimated wealth and a healthy outline of the source of the wealth, some family data, and interesting access and personality news such as this one from No. 36 Wafic Said: “He owns two homes in Britain, a vast apartment in Eaton Square, London’s most expensive address, and a 2000-acre estate in Oxfordshire, two homes in France . . . .” You get the idea. http://www.arabianbusiness.com/richlist/
CNBC European Business ran an article this spring about the richest Arabs. As oil prices increased, so did the wealth in this group. See the CNBC article at: http://cnbceb.com/2007/05/01/the-world%E2%80%99s-richest-arabs/ The National Business Review, an New Zealand publication, runs a list of the wealthiest in that realm. The 2007 list is restricted to those whose wealth is estimated at $50 million or more. That’s a leap from the 2006 threshold of $25 million. In fact, the story reports that more than 50 wealthies were dropped from this year’s list due to the new membership requirement. The full list in National Business Review magazine isn’t online, but the top of the top are listed at this link: http://www.nbr.co.nz/home/column_article.asp?id=18779&cid=4&cname=Business+Today If you want more information and you aren’t inclined to buy a copy of the magazine, search for New Zealand-based news stories about the rich list.
