WOMEN AVIATORS

The Ninety-Nines, an international organization of licensed women pilots from 35 countries, was named for the charter group of 99 women who organized in 1929. Their first president was Amelia Earhart. They're still going strong and promoting aviation education and aeronautical science. Read bios of current members at

On the Canadian side, visit High Flyers: Canadian Women in Aviation. Choose your language (English or French), then find histories of women's efforts in flight, from The Early Years to the Second World War, the 1950s and 1960s and, finally, the 1970s to the 1990s.

OBITUARIES101

Obituaries101 provides links to the obituary pages of hundreds of newspapers, arranged alphabetically by state. Click on the state abbreviation of your choice at the top of each page. Of course, each publication will vary as to the quality of its search features and the length of time obits are archived on the site. For some of the entries, a nice feature is a hotlink directly to the individual paper's search or archives page.

Click Today's Obituaries' News Feed for obits of prominent individuals and (for the morbidly curious?) reports of deaths resulting from accidents.

A click on Associated Press Obituaries links to a Seattle Post-Intelligencer obituary page that collects recent interesting obits.

For each state, you can click on All Newspapers and you will be taken to Abyznewslinks.com, which links to the home pages of the state's newspapers and broadcast news outlets.

The site's parent, the Big 101 Network, is a junky collection of news and other information and entertainment sites, but I have to admit they did a good job collecting their obituary pages.

GOOGLE IPO

Are we all searching our databases for the names Sergey Brin and Larry Page? The founders of Google (http://www.google.com/corporate/execs.html) will be among the hundreds of new potential philanthropists who will be created by the Google IPO, which was launched at the time of this report.

There are hundreds of articles about the Google IPO but here's one that focuses on the employees who are about to hit the jackpot, and explains how their stock options will work. For comparison, the article, titled Google IPO to Turn Employees into Millionaires (catchy!), also looks at the Microsoft millionaires. It was written before Google dropped its starting price on August 18, which lowered the company value from $36.6 billion to $25.7 billion.

Also note that Google is setting up a foundation with 1 percent of its equity and profits.
