At Biography Center, just enter the name of the person you’re searching for, and the site will do the work for you, bringing up links to biographies across the Web. A search for Bill Gates produced 4 hits, but unfortunately, a search for Jeff Bezos came up empty. Luckily, there is room for the site to grow. Anyone can submit a request for a biography to be added to the collection. Preference is given to bios covering the entire life of the person, with pictures, as well as those of interest to the public. In addition, preference is given to non-profit bios. Also, if you enjoy reading bios just for fun, roll the die and find yourself at a randomly selected bio.
Local business journals are some of the best sources for in-depth articles that include interviews, as well as personal and professional information on the featured prospects. I find myself visiting bizjournals.com whenever I’m researching someone who may not be nationally or internationally prominent, but who may be a mover-and-shaker in a city covered by one of the Biz Journals. Each year, the site covers the local Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year awards, a plus for our profession. The names of the 2000 Kansas City winners are at: http://www.bizjournals.com/kansascity/stories/2000/07/03/story8.html East Bay (Northern California) at: http://www.bizjournals.com/eastbay/stories/2000/06/26/daily1.html Jacksonville at: http://www.bizjournals.com/jacksonville/stories/2000/06/26/daily18.html Charlotte at: http://www.bizjournals.com/charlotte/stories/2000/06/26/daily3.html Tampa Bay at: http://www.bizjournals.com/tampabay/stories/2000/06/26/daily25.html Triad (Carolinas) at: http://www.bizjournals.com/triad/stories/2000/06/26/daily1.html Louisville at: http://www.bizjournals.com/louisville/stories/2000/07/03/daily21.html Nashville at: http://www.bizjournals.com/nashville/stories/2000/06/19/story2.html and Phoenix at: http://www.bizjournals.com/phoenix/stories/2000/06/26/daily33.html But a real mother lode can be found in the St. Louis Business Journal. Click on a name to read in-depth profiles of these winning entrepreneurs: http://www.bizjournals.com/stlouis/stories/2000/06/19/focus1.html.
At CEO Central, peruse profiles on dozens of top CEOs. Warning: the site is not completely up-to-date. It still lists Jill Barad as CEO of Mattel and she resigned in February. But, hey, we’re interested in historical information, too. If you’re researching prospects for a golf event, you can even check out the handicaps of the top 110 CEO golfers!
