Washington Life is a magazine that celebrates Washington's social scene and power elite. And it looks as though there's been much to celebrate lately. The number of Washington area families with liquid assets in the millions (liquid assets do not include real estate and retirement accounts) has grown 60 percent, from 2003's measly 88,000 to 2006's rip-roaring 140,000. The number of families with $5 million or more in liquid assets grew 53 percent, from 15,000 to 23,000. We'd all like to find out "who has it" and, more importantly, "who gives it away." Scroll down the page to read profiles of D.C.'s wealthiest. http://www.washingtonlife.com/issues/june-2007/wls-wealth-list/
A recent addition to Forbes' collection of useful information, this article skips over the familiar Gates-Buffett crowd to focus on less well-known billionaires such as a Mexican telecom tycoon, the family behind the Cargill empire and other U.S. and international billionaires. This site sounds self-explanatory, but it's not what you might think. The "richest" on this list are those who give back to society and make a difference in the world, not necessarily those with big bank accounts. Inspirational speaker Tim Richardson is collecting profiles of nominees and hopes to announce his 400 list at the same time the Forbes 400 list is released this fall. http://www.therichestpeopleinamerica.com/default.asp?x=1&n1=3 See the list of nominees at: http://www.therichestpeopleinamerica.com/default.asp?x=1&n1=8
