CONTENTS: The Forbes 2001 World's Richest People list is out. The full list includes biographical and net worth information on more than 500 billionaires from 46 countries, plus some interactive, online-only features. If you register (which is free), you can set up a tracking feature to help you keep an eye on any of these names. Three fashion designers made the list for the first time (see more on designers below) and 46 U.S. billionaires dropped off. Make sure your prospect isn't one of those unfortunate 46! http://www.forbes.com/2001/06/21/billionairesindex.html If you can't get to New York, Paris or Milan, visit this site for a veritable Who's Who of the designer fashion world. Click on the drop-down menu to select a name to research, from Agnes B to Yves Saint Laurent. Bios are fully detailed, describing each designer's career from childhood on. Or click on Interviews, then on Other Interviews to hear from more designers, artists and others. These pages use Flash to give you moving images and sounds for a truly well-designed experience. Note: Some pages contain nudity. This site is not for the easily offended. What's the next big thing? Digital business, of course. TNBT publishes an online business journal and also produces a syndicated television program that airs in Canada and features interviews with headline-making trailblazers in the digital business world. If you can't pick up the television signal, just look for the Interviews link on the left side of the TNBT home page or at the top of inside pages; click there for links to numerous bios (look for the All About . . . links) and interviews, as well as related articles. Using RealPlayer, you can listen to an interview or view highlights of the show. Of course, you can also just read the transcript the "old-fashioned" way. TNBT also culls the Web and the wires for news daily. You could easily spend hours at this site if you like to live in the digital world. The Institute for Democratic Education and Culture is a not-for-profit organization that promotes progressive speakers and artists. Their Web site has brief biographies of activists such as Noam Chomsky, Barbara Ehrenreich, Winona LaDuke and Jello Biafra, as well as many others who are involved in such areas as social justice, human rights, the environment and gender issues. The site is also searchable by topics from AIDS to Youth, Violence and Gangs. The site is a good place to start; however, some information may be out-of-date. For example, Barbara Ehrenreich's latest book listed is her 1998 publication; her 2001 book is not mentioned. http://www.speakersandartists.org/speakersAndArtists.html
