THE POWER 100

The Times Power 100 points you to the people in the top echelon of influence in Britain. See the photos of the top ten, then scroll down for the names of the rest (rankings 75 - 100 are listed in the blue box along the right side of the page). Click on each name to bring up a profile. Below each profile is a link to How the Power 100 List Was Compiled, which explains that this year's list was pulled from data from the largest 350 fully listed public companies; up from 100 in previous years.

Grab the drop-down boxes to see the names of the Top Five women in the Power 100, those aged 50 and younger, highest new entries, biggest climbers, knights, and those with the most connections. Knights -- now there's a category you won't see on U.S. lists.

Interesting articles about top executives round out this page.

NNDB

The Notable Names Database (NNDB) is one of those sites with a chip on its shoulder and its tongue in its cheek, but it still contains useful information as an intelligence aggregator. The site's intention is to explore the connections between people and explain behavior by studying a person's associations. The plan is to add synopses and analyses of the notables' books, films and recordings.

Use the Search function at the top of the page to search for names. You can break down your search to the living, the dead, movie or book titles or band names. The results will include your search term in the first or last name, title or a sound-alike. For example, a "living person" search for Gates retrieved Bill Gates, Melinda Gates, Gregory Harrison (who played Gonzo Gates on the television show Trapper John, M.D.) and Bernhard Goetz, the New York subway shooter.

If you don't have a specific search term in mind, browse under the alphabetical listings at the top of the page (warning: you'll need to scroll through some very long pages) or peruse the gossip column entitled Dr. Sputnik's Society Pages.

At the bottom of the page, click on NNDB Decalogue for a list of new additions to the site. I'd recommend skipping the link to the Daily Rotten, which advertises itself quite accurately as "News You Cannot Possibly Use."

THE ORLANDO BUSINESS JOURNAL

Put on your sunglasses to keep the glare out of your eyes, and take a look at some of the top executives in the Orlando area. The Orlando Business Journal is a great place to start.

From the home page, click on People in the News, or go to

where the names of people mentioned in the previous week's articles are pulled out. Click on each name to link to the story and on the dates at the top of the page to move ahead or back one week.

Last fall, the Orlando Business Journal printed profiles of the finalists in the publication's Most Influential Businessman award. Click on the page numbers below the story to scroll through the article, or on Print This Article for the entire listing on one page.

By the way, the winner was Al Weiss, President of Walt Disney World Resort. Look for next year's finalists this fall.
