2001 PULITZER PRIZES

The Pulitzer prizes, awarded each April, are among the highest honors that can be received in the U.S. for outstanding achievement in journalism, music and literature. The recently announced 2001 awards are featured on the Pulitzer Web site. The site provides links to the winning articles or examples or reviews of longer works, as well as biographies of the winners.

Archives (searchable by word, category or year) go back to 1995.

BALTIMORE MAGAZINE'S TOP DOCS

You don't have to be ill, or even to live in Maryland, to be interested in Baltimore Magazine's list of the area's top doctors. The Magazine staff surveyed hundreds of doctors, nurses and hospital administrators and came up with a list of the 130 most highly regarded physicians.

Brief profiles include where these top docs went to medical school and completed their residencies, their specialties and even links to their Web sites.

You can search by specialty, from allergy to urology, or check out the list of Up and Comers (under 40).

WHO'S ALIVE AND WHO'S DEAD

Have you ever started to research a person only to find out that he or she is no longer among the living? This Web site may solve that problem for you. It lists only the most well-known individuals, but it does a good job with who it covers. The site shows whether the person is alive and 80 years old or older, date of birth and date of death. If you click on More you will find a very brief profile, including cause of death if the person is indeed dead, which appears in a small frame across the bottom of the screen.

Search by the categories listed in the side frame, or alphabetically.

Despite its somber subject matter, frames and graphics make this a lively site to visit.
