NEW YORK STATE EDUCATION DEPARTMENT
Don't ask why the New York Education Department oversees the licensing
of physicians, chiropractors, veterinarians, pharmacists, nurses, engineers,
architects, CPA's, social workers, accupuncturists, interior designers
and masseuses, to name but a few. Just be glad they do -- because they
provide, at the Web site for the Office of the Professions, information
on the licensing of these professionals, as well as descriptions of professional
misconduct and discipline. Search by name and profession.
According to a February 2 New York Times article, by the end of this month, the list will be expanded to cover the last three years.
Thanks to David Shanton for this site.

PHILADELPHIA INQUIRER
CURRENT BIOGRAPHY EXCERPTS
The H.W. Wilson Co. is offering excerpts from the thousands of biographies
in its Current Biography library. Their stated plan is to feature a timely
theme -- for example, bios of actors around Oscar time, and prominent African-Americans
for Black History Month.
For now, to coincide with last summer's Olympics, you will be able to
find bios of athletes in sports ranging from auto racing to sled dog racing
to track and field. I guess we'll just have to keep checking back to see
if they do decide to add more timely updates.
