CONTENTS: Of course, we all know the name Forbes -- both the magazine and the Web site -- as a great source for checking out the rich and powerful. From the home page, click on People for links to articles on the big dogs in business and industry. Now, Forbes' People Tracker allows you to track executives and other members of Forbes' renowned lists; receive free e-mail alerts and updates on titles, compensation, options exercised or other news alerts; and easily research public companies. Registration is free and fairly quick and is worth doing for this well-designed site. You can search for your executive by name or company ticker symbol. Profiles show a brief career history, any rankings in a Forbes list and public compensation and stock holdings if available. Links on the left provide useful links to other execs in the same company. Once you've searched for and selected the execs you want to track, a People Tracker page will be created that will show your list of prospects and their compensation and stock options, with links to their profiles and company information, as well as relevant news articles. The site also features handy links to those famous Forbes lists, such as the Forbes 400, the World's Richest People, and more. This site was discussed on PRSPCT-L, with some unfavorable reviews of the news alert feature. True, you will see many headlines about your prospect's companies that you probably won't want to read. But Cecilia Hogan, our editor on the International beat, has picked up some useful information from the news alert feature. The IP consensus seems to be that this site is definitely worth a try. http://www.forbes.com/peopletracker/ This page has a long list of names to scroll down through, but it's worth the effort if you're researching up-and-comers in the St. Louis area. These people have all shown both strong business performance and a commitment to the St. Louis community. You can learn more about a restaurateur, a venture capitalist, a judge, a banker, a reporter, an event planner and a former football player turned real estate agent. http://stlouis.bcentral.com/stlouis/stories/2001/01/08/focus1.html Who is outperforming the competition, implementing a superior strategy or revving up sales in a slow-growth industry? Find out with this listing of top leaders, as selected by the writers and editors of Business Week. Some of those profiled here include ExxonMobil's Lee R. Raymond, Wayne Sanders of Kimberly-Clark and J. Craig Venter, president of the company that decoded the human genome. In addition to the Top Managers, be sure to check out the lists of Managers to Watch, The Best Regulators, the Top Entrepreneurs and because life, even for our best prospects, isn't always sunny -- the Losers and the Dot-Conned. http://www.businessweek.com/2001/01_02/c3714057.htm
