    SILICONVALLEY.COM: THE MILLENNIUM 100

I hope you’re not sick and tired of all the "best of the
millennium" lists that have been blanketing us lately like
snow in North Carolina because here’s another one.

SiliconValley.com is offering a list of, as they say, "a
group of fascinating figures who have had a major impact.
They made Silicon Valley what it is today."

Perhaps most useful will be the list of "Givers," including
Jean Kuhn Doyle and Peter Hero of the Community Foundation
Silicon Valley, Apple’s Steve Wozniak and James H. Clark,
founder of Silicon Graphics and Netscape, as well as a $150
    million donor to Stanford.

For a fascinating sideline, be sure to read the related
story about Douglas Engelbart, the long-overlooked inventor
of the computer mouse, the graphical user interface,
    windows-based computing, computer networking, hyperlinking,
    e-mail and video conferencing at
    http://www.mercurycenter.com/svtech/news/special/engelbart/part1.htm.
He was ahead of his time--he was talking about this stuff
back in 1968. "Prophets," the site says, "have always been
without honor in their own country."

    THE MEN OF SILICON VALLEY

You’re not looking for a husband; you’re looking for a
potential donor. But Women.com’s list of the Silicon
Valley’s most eligible bachelors may be just what you need.
Here you will find "a diverse and unpredictable list of
entrepreneurs, marketers, deal-makers and engineers." What
you might not need are the lowdowns provided by the
bachelors’ Moms (but they sure are fun to read).

Says writer Audrey Wong: "What did we find? Guys who love
football, watch 'Seinfeld' reruns and eat leftovers.
They’re your average American guys. With stock options."

WOMEN ON THEIR WAY TO WALL STREET

Women.com also has collected a list of women Internet
industry leaders: "Strong in number," they write, "these
women are heading up growing private companies and winning
the hearts--and money--of venture capitalists. When they
hit the public markets, they're bound to make an impact."

Links lead to profiles of these successful women and to the
    Web sites of their companies.
