CONTENTS: Here's an excellent salary site, this time for CEOs, from our friends at Forbes. The list of top CEOs can be sorted by rank, name, company, total compensation, five-year compensation, shares owned, age and efficiency (which is based on the performance/pay score). Click on a name for a detailed page showing business address, career and educational history and more detail on compensation and stock holdings. Click on the link to the 20/20 Club for executives who have produced at least 20 percent returns annually over at least 20 years. As with all of the excellent Forbes lists, there are related articles (including Best Bosses: Who Earns Their Keep, It's Good to Be King and Six Ways CEOs Hide Their Pay), slide shows and videos. http://www.forbes.com/2006/04/17/06ceo_ceo-compensation_land.html
Moving from the Eastern Seaboard to the Southwest, we now take a look at Houston's River Oaks neighborhood and its denizens. Since this is a National Geographic article, we examine the area's "folkways" and local traditions. An all-around enjoyable read, even if you aren't prospecting for oil in Houston! http://www7.nationalgeographic.com/ngm/0603/feature8/index.html This article studies the habits and lifestyles of Boston's wealthiest. Nearly 52,000 of Boston's 1.4 million households had at least $1 million in assets in 2004, 8 percent higher than the 2003 numbers. Claritas, the San Diego-based research firm that counted all that money, predicts that the proportion of millionaires will jump by another 50 percent by 2009. While the old-money Boston Brahmins of days-gone-by may have eschewed flashy displays of wealth, these new millionaires are buying and exhibiting luxury goods, including watches, fashion, furniture and luggage, at a rate faster than the national average. Furthermore, researchers are finding that the newly wealthy, who did not inherit a legacy of philanthropy from wealthy families, are more generous than those who did. http://www.boston.com/business/personalfinance/articles/2006/05/14/make_way_for_millionaires/
